Description:

Children play with a variety of building and construction toys from Lincoln Logs to Legos. The free play that children enjoy by experimenting and creating with the various parts of any set of construction toys helps them develop spatial awareness, problem solving, and creativity.

Building Blocks (69” X 84”), a twelve block sampler quilt made with ten coordinating hand dyed fabrics and one cream solid background fabric, celebrates the construction toys children play with. Each of the 12” blocks in this quilt is named after a different type of construction toy. Although there are many more toys than the twelve named in this block-of-the-month quilt, those I’ve selected are some that bring back fond memories of my own childhood (Tinkertoys and Lincoln Logs) and others that I learned about in assembling this project (K’Nex and Zoomorphs). There are a lot of fascinating and fun construction toys available for children—you may want to look into them!
